If I could own and drive a car like this, I would in a second! Unfortunately, those that still exist are consigned to private collections and museums, and are rarely if ever driven. Designed by the legendary Sydney Allard, the Allard J2X relied on the raw power of Cadillac’s overhead valve 5.4 liter V8 to deliver spectacular acceleration, powering to 60 mph in 8 seconds flat and reaching a top speed of 130 mph.
These cars were all hand-made, and unfortunately could not compete with the (comparatively) mass-market Jaguars, such as XK120, even though it accelerated faster. The last of the Allard J2X were produced in 1954 and Allard cease operations completely in 1958.
