There is an undeniably huge market for moderately luxurious, small to medium-size four-door sedans, which is the reason that Mercedes-Benz, BMW and others do so well. With competition like that, its a tough market to get into, or even to stay in. With the 156, that’s exactly what Alfa Romeo needed to do!
The Alfa Romeo 156 is an undoubtedly great little car; the styling is in line with what customers have come to expect from Alfa – the low, slanting nose and the high-tail, and the superbly designed aerodynamic and style features, such as the front grille and door handles.
The 156 was powered by a 190-horsepower, 24-valve 2.5-liter V6 that propelled it to a top speed of 138 mph (221 km/h), and accelerated to 60 mph in a very respectable 7 seconds. The Alfa Romeo 156 was also a very well-handling car, thanks to its front double-wishbone and rear struts suspension.
